David Bagijn
President
Hey, my name is David, and I have the honour to be the president of this year’s Symposium Committee. I am truly excited to work together with the rest of the committee on the upcoming symposium, celebrating the lustrum of the Technologisch Gezelschap.
The theme of our symposium will be: “Critical Metals; progress or burden?” We will explore the world of catalysts and lithium batteries, taking a closer look at the chemistry behind them, their role in shaping our future, and the current trade wars surrounding critical metals.
In my free time, I enjoy taking walks in nature and snapping photos along the way. I also enjoy meeting up with friends for a little drink.

Tjerk van Velhuizen
Secretary and contact
Hey everyone! My name is Tjerk and I have the honour to be this lustrum’s commissioner of speakers of the symposium committee. This means I will be in contact with all the professors, researchers and all other speakers who will take part in the symposium. I am a second-year bachelor’s student studying Molecular Science and Technology. In my free time I like to run and read but mostly I socialize with my friends. I am very excited to learn a lot and meet new people in my year as part of the symposium committee and I hope to see you all in February of 2026!

Sven Caris
Tresaurer
Hi, my name is Sven. I’m a 1st year master’s Chemical Engineering student, currently working on my master thesis. In my free time, I particularly enjoy doing sports, especially judo and running at the moment, where I am trying to obtain my black belt and training for a marathon. For the symposium committee, I fulfil the role of treasurer. This means I am trying to earn as much money as possible to organise this spectacular event, and am keeping track of where the hard-earned money is spent. I am most excited about the contact with companies and experts in the field, which I will have while organising the symposium. See you February 25th 2026!
